Growing up I saw how much my family valued being tough, knowledgeable, and resilient. Yet somehow, I saw how important it was for them to make time to create art, it was their way to relieve all their stress and trauma they experienced through immigration. They’d involve cultural elements to their pieces in order to preserve their history and take back some of the power they felt they lost through being displaced. As I got older, I was finally able to see the significance of all my family’s work. This influenced me into creating art that acknowledges my family’s history and background.
